Supercrawl 2017

Hamilton's Supercrawl was founded in 2009 out of a desire to expand on the promise of James Street North’s monthly Art Crawl. Showcasing great music alongside an entire street of cultural experiences — a diverse and dynamic lineup of music, art, fashion, performance, talks, crafts, food and fun (local, regional national and international). Supercrawl is currently accepting application for Visual Artists, and Theatre and Performance Artists.


City of Toronto "Outside the Box" (Hand-painted Traffic Signal Boxes) Project

Deadline: Monday, April 24, by 4:30 pm

The City of Toronto invites local area artists to submit proposals to create works of art on City traffic signal boxes throughout Toronto. This project is implemented by StreetARToronto (StART), part of the City of Toronto's Transportation Services Division. Since the project launched in 2013, over 185 boxes have been hand-painted by local artists and transformed into works of art. Artists may submit no more than 2 (two) design proposals (templates) along with a statement for each design. No artist will be selected for more than one (1) traffic signal box.

The artist fee paid will be a $650 honorarium (including HST) for each completed traffic signal box. Artists must specify in their application which of the designated weeks they will be available to paint: Week 1: June 19 – 23 or Week 2: Aug 7 – 11.


The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP)

Deadline: May 31, 2017

Canadian artists and permanent residents of Canada are invited to submit their 2D and 3D work for consideration to this national art prize jury. In its second year, SSNAP is offering $30,000 in awards. Finalists will be chosen by an independent jury from across Canada and artists' submissions will be anonymous to the jury.

  • THE JOAN McCONNELL AWARD for OUTSTANDING WORK: $17,000 ($12,000 and a $5,000 Salt Spring Island artists residency)
  • THE STEPHEN P ROBERTS JURORS' CHOICE AWARDS: three awards of $2,000 selected by each juror

  • THE ROSEMARIE BEHNCKE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS: with a 1st Prize of $3,000, 2nd Prize of $2,000 and 3rd Prize of $1,000 determined by a vote of visitors to the exhibition


Approximately 50 final works will be selected for exhibition and sale at historic Mahon Hall on Salt Spring Island, from September 22 through to October 22, 2017. The list of finalists will be announced by July 19, with winners announced at the awards gala on Saturday, October 21, 2017.
