June 23-25, 2017 / Salmon River Studios, Tamworth Ontario / $175 / person – get your ticket at www.universe.com/ceramicsweekend
Akin Projects and Salmon River invite you to Akin in the Country, a Ceramics Workshop Weekend. The workshop is hosted by Salmon River Studios co-founder and ceramic artist Ashley Doucette Pilles and will be held on the weekend of June 24th at her beautiful 52-acre farm in Tamworth Ontario.
This is a skill-share workshop designed to give participants a chance to share their own skills and techniques while also learning from other ceramic artists. Some basic skills with ceramics is required but newbies are welcome. The weekend promises to be full of new discoveries. Let the stunning Ontario landscape inspire you while we share ideas and techniques together.
Participants will be able to sign up for seven skill shares focusing on various ceramics techniques on Saturday and Sunday. A community vegetarian meal will be served in the barn on Saturday night for all participants followed by a pit-firing for the adventurous on Saturday night (fire-ban permitting). The pit-firing is a great opportunity to take part in a rarely used ceramic firing technique! If you are interested in having a piece in the firing Ashley will send you information on how to prepare after you have signed up.
Participants can contribute to the weekend by coming prepared with a technique to share with the group, allowing time for demonstration, experimentation and play. This is not required but don’t be shy! All skill levels are welcome to present a technique they enjoy using. We are all experts at something! Please note that we will not be creating finished work, but exploring and developing new skills. The demonstrations are encouraged to be no more than 30 minutes long to give participants 30 minutes of studio time to practice their new skills or build on an old one!
Once you have signed up we will be in touch to find out what technique you wish to share with the group and any special tools/materials or workspace requirements you will need. Ceramic materials for workshops will be provided.
Once the details are settled we will contact all participants with the schedule and you will have the option to sign up for up to seven skill share workshops throughout the weekend. We will do our best to fit everyone with their top 7 choices but please note that due to space limitations that we cannot guarantee this. You also have the option to sign up for less than 7 workshops which will allow you time to explore the grounds or relax in the barn.
Provided materials and equipment:
The cost of the workshop includes a bag of clay for each participant and all materials used in demonstrations by presenters and participants.
