Happy Autumn, Everyone! As the summer winds down and we get ready to see the leaves change colour, here at Akin we’re looking forward to a busy season filled with inspiration, creation and community. Friends and Family Day
On September 14th, we opened the studio doors at all Akin locations and hosted a Friends and Family Day. Akin artists brought their loved ones for a visit to show all the amazing work they've been doing inside the studio. Members toured their guests around the studio, showed their creative work, and engaged with other artists in the space. Thank you to our fantastic community members who came out and made this event such magic!

Open Studio Day
Join us on October 12th from 12-5pm for our Open Studio Event at Akin Queen East! This is your chance to check out the studio and the incredible work that’s being created there. You can meet with the artists, take a tour and learn more about one of our newest Akin studios! Our neighbours at Lost and Found Project Space, 420 Queen St E, will be having an exhibition at the same time, so be sure to head down and check it out.

New! Akin Referral Program Akin is excited to announce our new Referral Program for members, which is active now until November 30th, 2024. Our members have started earning $50 credits towards their studio membership fees by referring friends to join Akin’s studios.

2024 Akin Career Launcher Award Winners A huge congratulations to Shannon Sandwell and Meera Dinh and, this year’s Akin Studio Career Launcher award winners! These recent OCADU grads have each been awarded $2,000 to go towards their studio rental fees and $450 for a booking at Akin’s Remote Gallery. Meera settled into Akin Richmond-Bathurst in September, and Shannon into Akin Niagara in July. We’re so glad to have both of you in our studios! Akin Member Highlight - Get to know Akin Davisville member Chris Jordan Consul!Chris Jordan Consul (@chrxsjordvn), born in Scarborough, Ontario, is a mixed media artist and a member of Akin Davisville. Influenced by the natural world and human anatomy, Chris’s art is more expressive than realistic. As an artist from Filipino heritage, he values representation and the importance of diverse voices in the art world.

Whispers of CHAOS,

Remote Gallery! Be sure to head out to Remote Gallery at 568 Richmond St W to catch a new exhibition by Lana Yuan, a 2023 Space Award Winner. This award is a partnership between Toronto Arts Foundation, Neighbourhood Arts Network and Akin. The award focuses on providing affordable shared studio and/or exhibition space to newcomer professional artists.
Whispers of CHAOS is an exploration of the delicate interplay between order and chaos, as well as the lingering echoes of childhood nostalgia. Drawing from her own childhood experiences, Lana Yuan (@lana_yuan) navigates the decayed and abandoned spaces where her imagination once thrived. The exhibition runs until October 1st.
Viewing hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 pm to 11:30pm Saturday & Sunday from 9:00am to 8:00pm
