Robin Muccari's three-dimensional analog collage artwork, "Untitled," will be on display at Akin Vitrine Gallery (1747 St. Clair Avenue West) from June 24 through July 2024. The piece captures a static form of animated motion, with hands and objects rising from the bottom up, guided by light blue paths that symbolize the direction of flow and energy. Based in Toronto, Ontario, Robin Muccari is an artist, illustrator, and designer whose work spans analog and digital media, including collage, illustration, and animation. An alumnus of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Muccari has exhibited at prestigious venues such as The Rockefeller Center, Nippon Steel headquarters, The Artist Project, and Northern Contemporary, and has participated in a residency at the Kolaj Institute. Robin’s work transitioned to three-dimensional, analog collages that display energetic motion, express impulsive emotions, and explore physical space. These pieces play with perspective in depth among photographs, shapes, and wires, while providing shadows commonly used as effects in digital collage. Queer body is in constant transformation, reviewing identities and expanding possibilities of expression. They are fluid, liquid, and exuberant, just like the eternal dynamics of life.
The exhibition FLUIDS brings together a collection of video art, photographs, and live performances from three queer artists who question the status quo and rigidity of binary gender determination. Drawing from their research and personal live experiences, the artworks reflect on the theme of the fluidity of our bodies, and the freedom of being ourselves.
