We’re proud to welcome long-time Akin Member Claire Correia’s captivating installation Steadfast to the Akin Vitrine Gallery! Claire has created an intricate mobile sculpture made of pressed copper leaves, flame-worked and cast glass, brass, and zinc wire. Steadfast invites viewers to pause, to wonder, and to trust what we see in the living world—even if we’re not sure what it means.

Congratulations to the 2025 Recipients of the Akin Career Launcher!

In our sixth year of offering the Akin Career Launcher Award to OCAD students we are thrilled to welcome this year’s award winners to the Akin community!

Firouzeh Saremi Far

Firouzeh is a visual artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her artistic practice is an ongoing exploration of the intersections between human experience and environmental influences, reflecting different themes of identity, transformation, and resilience. Drawing inspiration from the emotional intensity of Expressionism and the limitless forms of abstract art, her works seek to invoke a dialogue on human matters. Her goal is to create art that not only occupies space but also serves as a catalyst for reflection and engagement, encouraging viewers to consider their connection to the world and the impact of their presence within it.

Haley Meyer

Haley is an oil painter and intaglio printmaker based in Toronto. Her work explores the connection between memory loss and transitional places, using fleeting images taken while in transit to reflect how memories slip, fade, and blur over time. The world seen from these spaces is impermanent and distorted, mirroring the way memory loss fractures and reshapes past experiences. Through painting and etching, she is able to organize, preserve, and remember fading experiences. Haley has exhibited her work across Ontario and is graduating from OCAD University’s Drawing & Painting program with a minor in Printmaking & Publications.

Monthly Crit Nights: Summer Pause

Our monthly Akin Crit Nights will be taking a short summer break in July and August, resuming again in September. In the meantime, keep creating, resting, and connecting—we’ll be back with more space for dialogue and feedback in the fall.
