Akin Dupont Detailed Accessibility Information

Our studios at Akin Dupont are located on the second floor of the building. There is no passenger elevator. There is a freight elevator that opens onto the main, second and third floors for loading and unloading furniture and equipment. However the elevator is not always available, and has two doors which must be manually lifted to be operable. The elevator door is approximately 60 inches wide and 73 inches high.

Akin Dupont is not currently reliably wheelchair accessible. Akin regrets this barrier to access. The main entrance to the building is located on Campbell Ave and the doorway is 72” wide and 96” high. The main entrance is on-grade and has a pull bar handle (doorknob). This door is not automated. The door is unlocked between 9am-6pm Monday-Friday. Outside of these hours you must use a push-button keypad to enter the building. There is step-free access into the lobby area. Once inside the lobby, the main staircase leads to the second floor & has 23 steps. The first step is 8” high, 59” in length and 10.5” in width for your foot. The rest of the steps are the same measurement: 6” high, 53” in length and 10.5” in width for your foot. In the staircase there are handrails on either side, south east north west side. At the second floor landing, the hallway to the left leads you to our four studio doors.

There is a secondary building entrance also located on Campbell Avenue, a little south of the main entrance. This secondary entrance has a doorknob that is a pull handle bar on the outside and a push bar on the inside. There is one step up to the door that is 6” high. Once inside, there is a staircase that takes you to the second floor as well. It has 22 steps with a handrail on the south east side of the staircase (left side going up and right side going down). Before accessing the second door from this entrance you must pass through a closed door which is not automated. The doorknob to this door is a regular door knob.

Each of the four studio doors is locked. Akin members must use a push-button keypad to enter the studios. The doorknobs of all four studios doors are turn handles. Doors are not automated.

There are four separate Akin units on the second floor of the building that share a public hallway. The bathrooms are located in that hallway and are shared with all tenants on the second floor. The bathrooms are not open to the public. There are no steps in the bathrooms. The doors to the bathrooms are not automated and are kept closed and locked. The building has installed key locks on the bathroom doors and you must get a key from the studio to enter the bathrooms. Keys for the washrooms are located in each of our four studio rooms. The bathrooms are gendered MEN and LADIES. Akin does not have access to gender-neutral bathrooms in this building.

There are no emergency exits in the individual units at Akin Dupont. In case of emergency, use the studio doors. There are three separate stairwells leading to the main floor and two exits on the main floor that lead outside. There is an emergency alarm and there are smoke detectors, sprinklers and carbon monoxide detectors in all the units.
