Akin St Clair

At St Clair and Silverthorn, Akin St Clair, located at 1747 St Clair Avenue West, is our longest running studio. St Clair is a street level studio which has member run kiln access, and large street facing windows. It’s easily reached by the St Clair streetcar. It has a large kitchen, parking, and a vitrine gallery. This location boasts a vibrant exterior mural which was developed in collaboration with local artists and community members. 

Akin Stockyards has 60 regular dedicated studios ranging from 24 sqft for $184/month to 114 sqft for $541/month and there are 8 shared membership spaces for $78/month.

Akin St Clair has high ceilings, with large north facing windows in the front room. The vitrine gallery is in the front window and can be viewed from the street.There is a kitchenette with a coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven and fridge.  As with all Akin studios, Akin St Clair has 24/7 access, wifi and a utility sink to wash brushes and other tools.

This building is all on ground level. There are two entrances to the studios. There is one entrance at the front of the building and a side door at the back of the building on the west side. We encourage everyone to use the side door. The side door is 46 inches wide.  It is flat and leads into a hall that is 59 inches wide. The front door is 35 inches wide and has one step.

When entering from the side door one enters into a hall. Most areas are flat inside. There is a step to get from the back hall to the kitchen. It is still possible to get to the kitchen without using the step by going around to the other entrance to the kitchen.

There is one gender neutral bathroom. There is one step to get to the bathroom. There is no alternative bathroom or alternative route to the bathroom. The bathroom door is 30 inches wide. There are no grab bars in the washroom and the toilets are not raised.

Akin St Clair Studio is 34m from St Clair Ave West at Silverthorn Ave West Side

(Stop ID: 14936) on the 512 St. Clair Streetcar Line and 240m from Old Weston Rd at St Clair Ave West North Side

(Stop ID: 4509) on the 41 Keele , 168 Symington and 341 Keele Night bus routes.

Both of these stops are considered wheelchair accessible by the TTC.

Bike and Car Parking

There is no dedicated member parking at this studio but there is residential parking on Hounslow Heath Road and other residential streets in the area. There is no dedicated bike parking at the building but there are some bike racks along St Clair.
