Let's Make Art

Hi there,

Thanks for checking in with us. Here are some photos of the last event that took place at Akin. It was hosted by our friend Wynne Leung (http://wynneleungart.com) and was a great success. Basically it was a group of people coming together to collaborate and put their ideas together in the form of large muralish paintings and drawings. Check out the pix below and please contact Wynne if you're interested in participating.

Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition

Hi there,
Just wanted to post up some pix from the show. I went today and it really was an overwhelming experience with so much incredible art everywhere. I loved it. Here we go:

Julia selling her sixth piece of the day. This was just before she found out that she won best sculptor for the second year in a row. Congratulations yo.

Talia Shipman Vanna White-ing her pieces for us.

Too cool

Cameron Tomsett hard at work on concert posters while showing his paintings. Atta boy.

David Alexander holding down his booth. I'm loving the resined pieces.

A pic I took through a glass bowl that was on display.

If you'd like to see more work by these artists please go to their personal websites on the right side of the screen. Congrats again to the four of you.

AKIN Collective will be exhibiting unpublished photographic works by futurist architects Oliver Pauk and Zach Slootsky. Inspired by their research into unique evolutions of the scientific realm, the architects have envisioned a futuristic lightscape that reflects urban fragility on the precipice of technological revolution and possible demise.

Pieces will be showing at Akin from 1-6pm every day from May 3rd to May 16th.
Closing party the eve of May 15th

No Flyers Please

AKIN has just started a new project called No Flyers Please. We're sick of cleaning up flyers that we never use but, that get dumped everyday on our doorsteps. So... we thought we'd get 12 000 static cling vinyl No Flyers flyers designed by our dear Nicole Tarasick and printed by our also dear Casey (both Akin members) at Lithocolor Services. These pieces of thin vinyl and their cardboard backings were themselves headed for the garbage can as they were excess material from another printing job, but Casey managed to salvage them. By the magic of static cling they stick to any flat surface... So we've started putting them in peoples' mailboxes around our city so that people can put them up and avoid having flyers dumped on their doorsteps too. Here are some examples:

Here is the design by Nicole Tarasick that's been printed on all 12 000 of our No Flyers Please clings.
If you like our idea and would like to help you can:

a] click on the image above, print it and put it on your mailbox or front door,

b] get in touch with us and we can send you clings,

or...
even better

c] get in touch with us and help us distribute these No Flyers Flyers around the city.

Thanks,

AKIN Collective

New Location to Come

Hi there,
We have a big announcement to make. Mike and I just signed the lease on a new studio space just around the corner on Dufferin just north of Queen. The space is a beautiful converted and skylit warehouse three times bigger than the current studio at 2000 sq. ft. We'll be moving in on February 1st and are looking forward to getting more members in there working and to having bigger and better events to come. Here are some pix of the space with the current tenant's stuff in there as well as a wee video tour:

A little present the tenants made me.

Thanks for coming to Trippple JJJ
