Consisting of Sumi ink on paper, Lilian Crum’s most recent body of work explores visual uncertainty through a psychological lens. Through intuition and restraint, ink is gradually pulled into loose, thread-like forms that are enigmatic and anthropomorphic. Although the images cannot be logically comprehended, they flicker with a quiet sense of familiarity that can be intuitively understood. The work has been refined through challenging form, material and meaning throughout ongoing exercises within the studio. Ultimately, Crum creates pieces that have the ability to be simultaneously quiet and monumental, and celebrate her unique quality of mark-making.

Solarship
One of our members, Jen Horak, works for Solarship. They've been constructing solar-powered aircraft that don't require fuel, roads or runways. The solarship is built to deliver critical supplies to people in remote areas who don’t have access to the things they need to survive. They have just received a grant to build their next generation Solarship to deliver critical supplies to First Nations communities in Northern Canada. Its second mission is to head to central Africa. They are in the process of raising $1 000 000 in order to do so. Watch the video below and please consider helping to fund them.

Val Sears
Making use of the optical properties of various minerals, Sears depicts the quiet spaces left behind, markers of a Toronto in transition: forgotten mini malls, parking lots, the view out the window. The intent is to reflect an area's personality. She is a recent graduate of OCAD.
