Say hello to our newest studio, Akin Sterling!
We’re thrilled to introduce you to our newest studio location, Akin Sterling. Located at 181 Sterling Road, just across the street from our former location, the Akin Studio Program at Auto BLDG.
Thanks to our partnership with Marlin Spring Developments, Akin Sterling has an unprecedented 20 year lease. This is an exciting step for Akin’s longevity and for the sustainability of the arts community in Toronto.
Akin Sterling is a 1775 sqft studio on the second floor of a residential building, with large, south facing windows and twelve semi-private studios ranging from 25 sqft ($195/month) to 90 sqft ($489/month). There is a kitchenette, a communal area, indoor bike parking, and two gender-neutral bathrooms, one of which is a universal washroom.
Since this studio is within a residential building, it comes with some unique stipulations when compared to other Akin locations. Akin Sterling is open from 8am-8pm only, and does not allow pets. Akin Sterling will unfortunately not be able to accommodate ceramics work nor shared memberships. Paid street parking is available on Sterling Road.
We’re happy to be able to provide even more studio space in the West End of Toronto! Sterling road is near Bloor Street, Roncesvalles, Dundas West, and Lansdowne Ave. Akin Sterling is 800m from Dundas West Station, 1.1 km from Lansdowne Station, and 550m from the Dundas streetcar at Sterling Road. Sterling Road also runs along the West Toronto Railpath, providing a fun, traffic-free route for walking and biking to the studio.

If you’re interested in becoming a member at Akin Sterling, please email info@akincollective.com. Please note that this is a small studio which has already had a great deal of interest. Priority will be given to current Akin members from other studio locations, and alumni. Akin will also prioritize applicants who self-identify as belonging to one or more of these equity-deserving groups: Indigenous, black, persons of colour, 2SLGBTQIAP, deaf persons, persons with disabilities and persons living with mental illness. As outlined in the Toronto Arts Council Equity Framework.
We can’t wait to welcome members into this beautiful new studio location starting on February 1st!
Please share widely.
