Akin Projects is hiring a Part-time Marketing Specialist! See our post for more details.

As the Marketing Specialist, you will have experience with marketing, social media, and the development of brand-identity and customer relationship strategies. You should be a good communicator and work well with a team, with a passion for community building and outreach. Being able to guide long term strategies while at the same time managing the day-to-day will be an asset. It would be great if you’ve worked remotely before and understand the importance of project management and collaboration. You will work closely with and be supported by the Marketing Committee, Programming Committee, Programming Manager/Specialist (a future hire), Erin Candela (Lead Programming Coordinator), Jen Pilles (Studio Operations Manager), and Emily Gong (Senior Development Associate) and will report to Akin’s Director Oliver Pauk and to Akin’s Board of Directors.

Akin is a Toronto-based, artist-run social enterprise (consisting of sister organizations Akin Projects & Akin Collective) located on Ancestral Wendat territory and the territory of the Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee, providing affordable studio space to nearly 250 artists in its 8 locations and programming roughly 40 arts-based events per year across the city. Akin Projects is a registered nonprofit established in 2015 providing artists and creatives with the support they need for creative production and development of their careers to benefit and enhance the communities where they work and live. We have offered services to thousands of individuals since our inception through our creative studios and arts programming. Akin Projects builds community through monthly art critiques, workshops, open studio events, gallery tours, exhibitions, and various other art projects.

Through the support of the Canada Council for the Arts’ Digital Strategy Fund, over the next eight months, we will be exploring the creation of digital tools that helps match local artists and arts organizations to creative spaces in their neighbourhoods. We are looking for an IT Consultant to help us achieve this project, advising us on the best approaches, assisting in the hiring process, and helping us navigate and manage digital production of which we are not familiar. 

Reporting to the Project Manager, the IT Consultant responsibilities will include: 
● Providing overview of all technical aspects of the project, 
● Providing expert advice to the Project Manager regarding scheduling, workflow and additional hires, 
● Advising and recommending digital technology solutions best suited to the project, 
● In cooperation with the Project Manager, updating all project partners and stakeholders on technical aspects of the initiative as per the schedule. 

We welcome expressions of interest from experienced IT consultants - both individuals or companies.

Akin Studio Coordinator: 3 Positions Available

Salary: $16.00/hour

Hours: Variable, approximately 10-15 hours/week.

Please note that although this is an entry level position with the organization, there will be multiple opportunities for advancement to ‘Studio Manager’ roles in the coming months.

Introduction
Akin is a Toronto-based, artist-run social enterprise that provides affordable studio space to nearly 350 artists in its 9 locations and programs roughly 50 arts-based events per year across the city. Akin is run by artists, and is dedicated to providing a working environment that maintains a friendly and inspiring atmosphere where people can work on creative endeavours and entrepreneurial undertakings of all kinds. Akin builds community through monthly art critiques, workshops, open studio events, gallery tours, exhibitions, as well as various other art projects. www.akin.art

Position
The Studio Coordinator(s) will report directly to the Akin Studio Managers and Programming Coordinators. Duties will include assisting with the management of various studio locations including administration, conducting tours, event logistics, general maintenance and errands. On occasion, the role will involve assisting with Akin’s robust outreach and community engagement activities, representing Akin at various events and public programs across the city. 

These positions will begin approximately April 15, 2019 (pending successful applicants availability) with a three month probation period. Compensation is $16/hour. Hours are variable, and may partially be worked remotely, but will consist of approximately 10-15 hours per week with the opportunity for more.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to Akin Studio Managers and Programming Team:

  • Assisting with day-to-day operations of Akin’s various studios locations including tours, general maintenance, running errands and supporting Akin’s artist members.

  • Representing Akin publicly at studio-related events and programs across the city and assisting with logistics and coordination.

  • Driving between various Akin locations, suppliers and storage facilities and leading pickups and deliveries of various materials and supplies.

  • Other studio and event/outreach-related tasks as assigned.

  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required, including but not limited to: conflict resolution strategies, anti-oppression training and beyond.


Qualifications
The ideal candidate:

  • Has a knowledge and interest in contemporary visual art, design or craft and art making practices and is a practicing artist/creative;

  • Comfortable working with the Google suite;

  • Possesses excellent administrative, communication, verbal and organizational skills;

  • Has experience/interest in public programming, communications, community engagement;

  • Possesses excellent organizational and analytical skills;

  • Has an understanding of and values equity, meaningful inclusion and anti-oppressive practice

  • Works well independently, and as a member of a team.

  • At least one of the selected candidates will require a valid Ontario G or G2 level driver’s licence and can provide proof after hire, given the essential nature of this task as part of the role. Applicants do not necessarily require their own vehicle, as a car share membership will be available for drivers with a G level license.
