Akin Show and Tell on June 26 at Akin St Clair

Every month Akin hosts a relaxed and fun ‘Show and Tell for Artists’ at one of the Akin Collective studios or at one of our partner organizations' locations. This is a time for Akin members and other Toronto artists to show completed works or works in progress and get friendly feedback and answers from their peers in a casual studio setting.

Feel free to bring art to share, bring a friend or two, bring snacks or drinks or just bring yourself! Come for the conversation or just to meet other artists and makers. This is FREE public event - everyone is welcome!

The June edition of the Show and Tell is happening at Akin St Clair at 1747 St Clair Ave West.

Accessibility:
This building is all on one floor. Akin St. Clair Studios regrets any barrier to access. If you require more information or are concerned about accessibility barriers please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Akin St. Clair Entrance: The side door has no steps to enter. It is 46 inches wide. The front door is 35 inches wide and has one step.

Inside: When entering from the side door one enters into a hall. Most areas are flat inside. There is a step to get from the back hall to the kitchen. It is still possible to get to the kitchen without using the step by going around to the other entrance to the kitchen.

There is one all genders bathroom. There is one step to get to the bathroom. There is no alternative bathroom or alternative route to the bathroom. The bathroom door is 30 inches wide. There are no grab bars in the washroom and the toilets are not raised.

Getting here by TTC:
Akin St Clair Studios is accessible on the 512 St. Clair Streetcar Line and by bus, take either Bus 168 from Dundas West Station, or Bus 127 Spadina Station to Keele and St. Clair.

Parking:
There is a private parking lot to the west of the building. It is likely that one will find a parking spot there. If not there is residential parking on Houndslowt Heath Road and other residential streets in the area.

Earth Day Community Clean Up on April 22 at Akin Lansdowne

Join Akin artists, friends and neighbors on Earth Day for a casual community clean up followed by a free beer and a snack courtesy of Henderson Brewing Co. Limit of one beer and snack per person in exchange for a bag of garbage. 

Rain or shine! Gloves and garbage bags will be provided by Akin. Please RSVP on this Facebook Event Page so we know how much supplies we need. Everyone is welcome to participate but you must be legal drinking age to receive your free beer. Garbage pick-up has been arranged by Henderson Brewing Co.

SCHEDULE:
9:45am - We will meet at 87 Wade Ave on the north side of the building.

10am - Garbage clean-up begins as we walk slowly south along Wade Ave to Bloor street and continue West to the West Toronto Railpath. We will then head south on the Railpath and continue our clean-up.

11am - Arrive at Henderson Brewing Co at 128A Sterling Road where you can exchange your bag of garbage for free beer and a snack!

You're Invited to the Akin Holiday Party & Open House!

Akin invites you to join us on Saturday December 16 at Akin Lansdowne for an afternoon of good cheer at the Akin Holiday Party! We want to celebrate with you! Everyone is welcome!

In 2017 Akin collaborated with some amazing partners, and opened four new studio locations and welcomed many more artists to the studios. This party is a celebration for members from all seven Akin studios, as well as our neighbors, community partners, friends and family and anyone interested in celebrating with us! 

Studio 101 will be open from 12-5pm. Come and stay for a while. Mingle, enjoy the pot luck and browse the market featuring art and objects by Akin members! 

Dress festive, fun or fancy! Children of all ages welcome, but please no pets. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided but feel free to BYOB. Food and snacks for the pot luck are welcome! Please provide labels for any common allergens.

Getting there:
By TTC:
Akin Lansdowne is walking distance from Lansdowne Subway Station and is accessible by the Bloor­/Danforth subway line (Line 2) and the 47 Lansdowne Bus.

By car:
There is no reserved onsite parking but there is street parking on Wade Ave, Paton Road, and Lansdowne Ave - please check the street signs for hours. For after hours parking there is a Green P lot located at 695 Lansdowne Ave.

Accessibility:
Akin Lansdowne is not currently wheelchair accessible. Akin regrets this barrier to access.

When you arrive at Akin Lansdowne's entrance at the north side of the building, there are 6 steps into the building to access studio 101. There are two steps into the main floor gender-neutral washroom. There are no grab bars in the washroom and the toilets are not raised. The washroom on the second floor is level.

Ceramics Show & Tell at the Gardiner Museum

Akin Projects is excited to present special ceramics edition of the ‘Show & Tell’ for artists at The Gardiner Museum led by artist and Akin Studio Manager, Erin Candela.

Informative, supportive and fun—this is a time for artists to show completed works or works in progress and get friendly feedback and answers from their peers in a casual (this time a museum!) setting. Feel free to bring art to share, bring a friend or two or just bring yourself. Come for the conversation about art, or just to meet other artists and makers.

This is a free program part of Ceramic Change: How to Make It, a one day workshop intensive for emerging artists and makers in the expanded field of ceramics in conjunction with the exhibition Steven Heinemann: Culture & Nature, This one-day workshop intensive will focus on the nuts and bolts of professional survival and enabling skilled connections. From building your own DIY wooden kiln to local clay harvesting, these presentations, workshops, and conversations will dig deep into what it means to pursue a sustainable maker practice in Toronto today.

About the Gardiner Museum:
The Gardiner Museum is Canada's national ceramics museum. It was founded by George and Helen Gardiner in 1984 to house their collection of ceramic art. Its permanent collection of over 2,900 pieces, includes works from the Ancient Americas, Italian Renaissance, English Delftware, Chinese and Japanese porcelain, European porcelain, and a contemporary gallery. In addition to the permanent collections, the museum mounts three temporary exhibitions per year as well as a variety of community programming. For more information visit www.gardinermuseum.on.ca

Getting There:
Subway/Bus: From Bloor-Danforth Line — St. George Station is the closest fully accessible stop to the Gardiner’s main entrance. Take elevators to street level at the Bloor Street and Bedford Road entrance. Go south on Bedford to Bloor. Then east along Bloor to Queen's Park. The Gardiner is just south of Bloor on the east side of Queen's Park. From Yonge-University Subway Line — Museum Station is the closest subway stop to the Gardiner's main entrance. This stop is not wheelchair accessible.

Accessibility: 
The Gardiner Museum is fully wheelchair accessible. Last Show & Tell of the year - Nov 29 at Akin Dufferin

On the last Wednesday of every month Akin host’s a relaxed and fun ‘Show and Tell for Artists’ at one of the Akin Collective studios. This is a time for Akin members and other Toronto artists to show completed works or works in progress and get friendly feedback and answers from their peers in a casual studio setting. 

Please note: There will not be a Show and Tell in December, but we will resume in the new year!

This month we are meeting at Akin Dufferin in Unit E at 444 Dufferin St. See you there! 

Accessibility:
Unit E is on the ground floor. It has step free access through main entrance, though there is a small lip at the entrance and there are two doors to pass through. The doors are not automated. There is a ground level accessible gender-neutral washroom. There are no grab bars in the washroom and the toilet is not raised. The floor is at ground level throughout the studio and there is a loading dock that allows for vehicle access.

Give and Get: Making good ideas happen

Sheila Goldgrab & Joel Kumove in partnership with the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario invite you to Give and Get: making good ideas happen, a free monthly house event for people with projects.

Give and Get is a place to meet new people, eat a meal together,  and seek and offer ideas and support and make new connections in a fun and friendly environment. The event is suitable for anyone with an idea or project that would benefit from multiple perspectives or resources.

It could be a business project, a personal project, an art project, a charitable cause or a community project. Free and open to anyone who registers. The evening will be facilitated by a leadership career coach and mentors who want to help make your great ideas happen!

Here's what Give and Get believes in:
- An unexpected mix of great people can propel your project forward.
- Everyone has something to offer.
