'Whose Community?' a drop-in event at Xpace Cultural Centre on Saturday March 17

February 28, 2018 by Akin Collective in Event, Member News

Saturday, March 17 at 1 PM - 6 PM / Xpace Cultural Centre 2-303 Lansdowne Avenue Unit 2, Main Floor / Drop-in / FREE

“Whose Community?” is a drop-in event that aims to debunk existing tensions in the word “community” while fostering an environment wherein the language of social justice and communal change is accessible to individuals of various backgrounds (including education, class, and ethnicity).

We invite residents from the Junction Triangle, Parkdale and Bloordale to share the wealth of resources available in their neighbourhood by participating in an ongoing community map-making session. This activity will be facilitated by community members from the following local institutions:

Melody Grant & Erin Howley (Sistering: A Woman's Place)
Mercedes S. Zayas (Parkdale People's Economy)
Althea Balmes (Akin Collective Lansdowne Studios)
Sheila Sampath (The Public)

Additionally, please join us for an art workshop hosted by Sistering. This activity is open to people of all-ages and all-skills.

Food catered by neighbouring establishments will be provided.

Participants can drop in at any time.

"Whose Community?” is part of Myseum of Toronto Intersections, an annual festival of exhibits exploring different perspectives on the city’s natural, cultural, and historical diversity. We would like to thank Myseum for their generous support.
