RABBIT ISLAND
Rabbit Island is a 91 acre forested island in Lake Superior three miles east of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. The island is composed of a native ecosystem standing upon solid bedrock and has never before been developed or subdivided. Bald eagles and great blue herons nest in the trees and the surrounding waters provide habitat for thriving lake trout and salmon populations. The majority of the island is held under a conservation easement granted by the Keweenaw Land Trust assuring it’s unique ecosystem will remain healthy in perpetuity. A very small cabin is planned over the next several years which will be sustainable and built using the rocks and wood on the island. Rabbit Island will serve as a platform for science, art, preservation and recreation for the generations.

Forge - Akin's Collaborative Workshop Series
Call for Expressions of Interest
AKIN Collective: FORGE Collaborative Workshop Series seeking Artist FacilitatorsFORGE connections. FUEL your practice. RESHAPE your creative process.
Kicking off this Fall, FORGE will be AKIN Collective's newest creative incubator for practicing artists and designers. Participants will learn and share skills, discuss, debate, bust creative ruts, stretch their abilities, brainstorm with peers and be challenged to step outside of their practice. Workshops can be thematic in nature, and should provide an opportunity for advanced skill building with a strong emphasis on collaboration and knowledge transfer among members of AKIN's community. Workshops should focus on exploring unconventional processes or modes of expression. Take us places we've never been before!
Expression of Interest should include:
A brief bio of yourself and your practice,
+ Documentation of your work and/or any relevant links to your work online,
+ A short outline of the workshop(s) you'd like to conduct,
+ Ideal number of participants, required materials or space, the best time of year to hold the workshop, and any other technical or safety considerations that may apply.
Anyone may submit an expression of interest. Teaching or facilitating experience is considered an asset. If you are interested in organizing and leading a workshop, we want to hear from you! We also want to hear from you if you have ideas about specific topics for workshops you are interested in taking.
An artist's fee participating facilitators will be offered.

The Pixel Painter
Hal Lasko, better known as Grandpa, worked as a graphic artist back when everything was done by hand. His family introduced him to the computer and Microsoft Paint long after he retired.
Now, Grandpa spends ten hours a day moving pixels around his computer paintings. His work is a collision of pointillism and 8-Bit art.
