Kwentong Bayan Collective in partnership with the Lillian H. Smith Branch - Toronto Public Library invites you to our Komiks Zine Fair!

Please join us in celebrating Kwentong Bayan's 1 year anniversary of hosting a weekly Comics / Komiks Meet-Up at the library.

There will be lots of activities for all ages including an art-making table, merch displays featuring work by Meet-Up artists, short movies about comics, and a chill reading spot featuring our favorite Filipino komiks!

Kwentong Bayan is a collective of two Toronto-based artists, Jo SiMalaya Alcampo and Akin King member Althea Balmes. Their artistic mandate is to explore a critical and intersectional approach to community-based art, labour, and education. Althea Balmes is a multidisciplinary visual storyteller and artist educator interested in collaborative creative expressions to tell stories and make art.

ZIPE is a free Zine Production and Exchange Program offered by Paperhouse Outreach Collective in partnership with SKETCH Working Arts and Toronto Art Book Fair, for youth and young adults (13-29) who identify as one or multiple: 2SLGBTQIAP, disabled or POC, led by local artists who also self-id as a member of the above communities.


Youth will learn skills such as writing, image making, zines & book making, Risograph printing, how to prep for fairs (sell your art work) + so much more from our wonderful and talented team of artists! PLUS show & tell with Art Metropole AND the opportunity to table at Zine Dream!

Dates: July 3rd - July 28th, 10 Sessions

FOOD + TTC Tokens / Tickets provided for all workshops
LIMITED spots available

Deadline to apply: June 19th 2018

ZIPE 2018 is funded by Toronto Arts Council and Community One Foundation, with support from Art Metropole, Zine Dream, and Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild.

Edition is dedicated to the promotion of art book publishing in all forms, while building an appreciation for artworks produced in editions of more than one. A stimulating and engaging series of talks, panels and special exhibitions will also be presented throughout the weekend in conjunction with the fair’s programming partners. The event is happening alongside Art Toronto, Canada’s international contemporary and modern art fair.

Names and Places - Book Release, Exhibition, & Print Expo featuring artwork and prints by Akin artists!

Names and Places  is a group exhibition that opens on April 20 at Northern Contemporary and will include new work by Akin Lansdowne artist Liang Wang. It is also a book launch for Names and Places Volume 3

Names and Places Volume 3 explores the unique relationship between graffiti and urban delivery trucks. From box trucks to cargo vans, these moving canvases present a wide range of opportunities for graffiti writers and photographers alike.

The art exhibition showcases paintings, photographs, and sculpture-based work inspired by trucks from artists across a wide range of disciplines.

The exhibition runs from April 20-30 and culminates in the Names and Places Print Expo on April 29 (11am-6pm) which is a one day market event featuring some of Toronto's coolest zinemakers, printmakers, small press and illustrators including Billy Franklin of Akin Dupont and Jackie Lee of Akin Sunrise.

Zine & Craft Jam!

Have a zine or craft project that you are working on? Or something you have been meaning to start? Maybe you want to make some holiday cards, ornaments or gifts and are finding it hard to get started? Join us at Akin Lansdowne to work on your project together with other artists and creatives!

This is a fun time to share ideas, tips, tools and energy while we work on the passion projects we have been putting off. Bring your own supplies. Some refreshments will be provided but feel free to bring snacks and drinks.


Some materials will be provided including:
- hot glue gun and glue
- pencil crayons
- cutting mats, blades, and scissors
- assorted craft supplies (things like glitter, beads, string)
- assorted paper
- Zines and crafting books for inspiration
