Open Studio's Artist Proof Sale Opening Party! December 1

November 20, 2016 by Jen Pilles in Event

Opening Night Party: Thursday, December 1, 6:00 to 9:00 pm, FREE ADMISSION
Sale continues Friday, December 2 through Friday, December 23, Tuesday - Saturday, 12:00 to 5:00 pm.

Open Studio’s Artist Proof Sale is an excellent way to kickstart or build a growing art collection. And you can do it without breaking your holiday budget! Hundreds of original works of art, including screenprints, etchings, lithographs and relief prints are available by established and emerging artists from around the country—priced from just $50-$400.

The opening night party features:

  • Original, one-of-a-kind fine art prints, ranging from $50 - $400, by established and emerging artists.
  • Food, cash bar and festivities
  • An artwork by artist Dave Dyment commissioned especially for the event — limited edition prints will be printed live and available for sale that night.
  • Limited edition, original, handmade artists’ greeting cards—our new annual range of cards will be launched during the event.

The Artist Proof Sale is an important fundraiser for Open Studio— 50% of the sale price of each print goes to the artist and 50% goes to support Open Studio’s charitable programming, which includes exhibitions, talks, education and residencies. With each purchase you make, you get an original work of art at a reasonable price, while supporting contemporary Canadian artists and a vital Canadian cultural resource.

This event is an excellent opportunity for those who are looking to start or add to their art collections and for those who are looking for original holiday gift ideas or who prefer to shop locally.

This is always a popular and busy event, with fierce competition for some works, so come early — once a piece is sold, it’s gone! The sale continues to Saturday, December 23rd in our galleries (regular hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 12-5 pm) and online.

Akin presents the Akin Vitrine Gallery featuring Paper Bag Beers

November 02, 2016 by Jen Pilles in Event

Akin Collective + Akin Projects are excited to present the Vitrine Gallery, a recent addition to our Dupont studios. This miniature gallery will feature the diverse talent of our members with a new installation each month.

Our new exhibition features the collaborative work of Akin members, Erin Enns and Shanna Van Maurik (AKA: Paper Bag Beers) and runs for the month of November.

Paper bag beers is a Toronto-based collaborative composed of two extraterrestrial rainbow children, Erin Enns and Shanna Van Maurik. Since 2013, they have been creating work together and sharing their love for the kind of colours that hurt your eyes. Enns' background is in illustration and design and Van Maurik's is in fine art, and painting. The combination of their two distinct styles creates work that falls somewhere in between fairy tale illustrations and dystopian toxic wastescapes. They illuminate planets unseen by the human eye, sometimes showcasing the creatures that inhabit them.

Exhibition includes two hanging pieces, Scumland Lazy River and Crusty Junk Caverns, both gouache on panel, 24x24” and a sculptural element titled, Bubblegum Valley Install.

The Akin Vitrine Gallery is located at the Clock Factory Building at 1485 Dupont Street (entrance on Campbell Avenue). Find Akin Studio 215 on the second floor and follow the sign into the hallway around the corner.

The building is open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, or to arrange a viewing outside of those hours please contact the artists: erin@entro.com and shannavanmaurik@gmail.com.
